Ball is Life

Recently my schedule has been crazy, I have had practice 4-5 days a week with workout sessions on the weekends. So I have been really busy and loving all of it, I am doing something that I love and enjoy very much. I have been pushing through the pain, and many other obstacles like for our game against Pano I played with the stomach flu because I never want to let my team down. If I can still run I can play basketball. The only bad thing about this is my knee, now I have been trying to push through it and keep going and I haven't given my knee a chance to rest. I prefer not to tell people or make a big deal about it, as an athlete I one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone complains or makes excuses athletic or not. I still would never want to let my team down and rest out of practices or anything like that since I have made a commitment to them, so honestly the only time that I will be able to rest is August and even then once club season is over I still continue my workouts, so my knee is a major set back. Yet I know that I cannot keep putting my body through this, the pain has intensified, most nights and even some mornings I can barely put pressure or weight on it, the swelling has increased immensely. This is really disappointing as I was heading in the right direction with my recovery and I got the go ahead to play but be cautious. I haven't really told my parents much about this [sorry mom] because of the fact that after a previous discussion, if my knee worsens I am going to have to stop playing basketball :( So like anyone in my situation would I try to deal with it on my own, but even some of my physio is starting to hurt. I wanted to end this blog post on a positive note, so tonight we played Semi, so here is a recap. The first quarter in I'd say the first minute our score was 4-0 for us. Now in the first half I had some really good assists as well as a basket, and alot of jump balls. Now the second half was fun we entered it with a 14 point lead and we got to run through alot of our plays, again I got lots of assists, the last basket and rebounds, and our final score was 43-19 for us.

  1. Jess you can't keep after it when your body is saying rest… so PLEASE take time after this season BEFORE you jump into club again. Any good coach will know how important and how much better you will be if you finally rest. You can do full body training for core and arms and hamstrings without impacting your knees. You can even shoot. Running is what is killing you.
